James Edgar was born in Pierson, Manitoba on January 8, 1893.
In 1921 Edgar moved to Warren to farm with his brothers Royden and Harold. They lived on the Badham farm (NW 21-13-1W)
Edgar married Ivy Bassett on October 10, 1923. Ivy, born in 1900 was the only
daughter of John D. and Florence Bassett of Meadow Lea. They farmed west of Warren for several years before taking over the
Bassett General Store in 1934, which evolved into a John Deere Implement Sales and Service and a car dealership. He
also established a John Deere dealership in Stonewall. The Jone Deere implement shop in Warren burned in 1954 and was
rebuilt in 1955. Edgar retired from business in 1956. During his retirement years he ran an insurance agency from
his home.
Edgar and Ivy had four children - Ronald John in 1924, Edna Florence in
1926, Ivy Jean in 1931 and Enid Selina in 1934.
Edgar was Reeve of the Municipality of Woodlands from 1961 until 1963. He was a very active community
worker, and a lover of sports. He had a particular love for hunting- goose, duck and pheasant shooting. He made
many journeys with friends and his nephews not only to find good hunting areas but good companionship. Many "hunting
with Edgar" stories are told by his nephews.
Edgar died on March 13, 1973. Ivy passed away 1989.
