Ernest Christopher was born at Pierson, Manitoba on March 21,
1903. He attended school there, worked on the family farm a few years before coming to live at Warren, when other members of
the Riddell family came. He was very interested in sports of all kinds, played ball for many years, also curled and
played some hockey. He later went to Winnipeg in 1930, where he operated a filling station for three years in partnership
with the late Malcom Kahler. In 1933 he acquired the farm home (SW34-13-1W) at Warren.
On May 8, 1934, Ernie married Florence Nichol, daughter of Susannah and Matthew
Nichol or Warren, born in 1913. They had six children - James Henry on April 26, 1935, Leona
Dawn on July 4, 1936, Christopher Elwood on December 14, 1937, Robert Matthew on
November 17, 1938, Brooke Florence on October 22, 1939 and Gordon Ross on December 13, 1940.
Ernie was very interested in community ventures, was instrumental in starting the
pool elevator, served on the school board for a number of years, helped dig the basement for the hall, and was also president
of the agricultural association.
Ernie had a serious farm accident in 1953, from which he never completely recovered.
Ernie retired in 1976, moving to Winnipeg for three years, and then back to Warren.
In the later years, Floss and Ernie acquired a home in Phoenix for the winters.
Ernie passed away in September 1990. Floss now resides at Rosewood Lodge
in Stonewall.
